Meet the Practitioners
Dr. Michael Bauerschmidt, Visionary Environmental Physician, Founder
Dr. Kelly Holes-Lewis, Environmental Physician and Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association
After years of watching patients struggle with symptoms that seemed impossible to connect, Dr. Kelly discovered what most doctors miss: the hidden environmental factors stealing our health from the inside out. Her journey began in traditional medicine, earning board certifications from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Obesity Medicine, alongside groundbreaking training in Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography-CT Imaging. Her awakening to environmental medicine— culminating in specialized training from EMEI (Environmental Medical Education Institute)—revealed her true calling. Her certification in Nutritional Psychiatry through the Integrative Psychiatry Institute and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction certification represent her relentless pursuit of healing modalities that honor the body’s innate wisdom. Recognized as Charleston’s “Best Psychiatrist,” Dr. Holes-Lewis has transcended traditional psychiatric boundaries to become a detective of environmental illness, a translator between the toxic modern world and the human cost of our disconnection from nature. She possesses exceptional expertise in tracing the connections between mold exposure and depression, heavy metal toxicity and anxiety, nutritional depletion and despair, and chronic inflammation and the epidemic of suffering plaguing our society. Through her guidance, patients don’t just recover; they awaken to a completely new way of being in the world, equipped with knowledge and tools that make every choice an act of self-healing, every breath cleaner, every day a step toward the vibrant life they were meant to live.

Alexandra Fitzpatrick, Physician Assistant
Alex brings a unique blend of clinical expertise, curiosity, and patient-centered compassion to her role at Deeper Healing. Her passion for medicine began unexpectedly at just fifteen, when she was placed in her high school’s medical program instead of her intended law track. What started as chance quickly became a calling—launching her into an early path of discovery that included certifications as a CNA, EKG technician, and pharmacy technician even before graduating high school.
Alex earned her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Florida State University while obtaining her Medical Assistant certification and working in family practice. After graduation, she served as Head Medical Assistant in a medical dermatology office for three years, gaining invaluable hands-on experience. She went on to earn her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Charleston Southern University. Her first role as a PA immersed her in primary care, hospice, and palliative medicine, where she cared for critically ill and bed-bound patients in homes and long-term care facilities. During this time, she began to look beyond symptom management to uncover the underlying mechanisms driving chronic disease—recognizing hormone dysregulation as a common yet under-addressed root cause. This realization sparked her transition into the field of hormone replacement therapy, where she found deep fulfillment in restoring hormonal balance and helping patients reclaim vitality. Yet even as she witnessed remarkable improvements, Alex remained driven to understand why these imbalances were occurring—even in young, otherwise healthy individuals. That curiosity became the foundation for her next evolution: exploring functional and environmental medicine to identify the upstream disruptors that precede hormonal dysfunction. Her passion for understanding how environmental factors impact chronic illness ultimately guided her to Deeper Healing, where she integrates functional and environmental medicine to support true restoration. Outside the clinic, Alex enjoys watching college football, walking her dog, playing pickleball, exploring unique hot sauces, and embracing her role as a lifelong learner. She is deeply grateful to join the team at Deeper Healing… “I believe that addressing these hidden environmental burdens was the final, essential piece needed to help patients achieve vibrant, long-lasting health.”
